Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Community centers are essential venues for cultural events, providing accessible spaces for cultural expression, social interaction, and community engagement. In Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State, community centers host various cultural events, including weddings, naming ceremonies, and traditional dances. These centers play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and fostering social cohesion. According to Abdullahi and Sani (2023), the use of community centers for cultural events enhances accessibility, reduces costs, and promotes local participation. However, the effectiveness of these centers is often limited by challenges such as inadequate facilities, poor maintenance, and insufficient funding. This study evaluates the use of community centers as venues for cultural events in Sokoto North, focusing on their benefits, challenges, and impact on cultural preservation.
